BG Sharon A. Martin

Brigadier General Sharon A. Martin serves as Assistant Adjutant General, Army, Missouri National Guard providing command and control for the 35th Military Police Brigade, 35th Combat Aviation Brigade, 1107th Aviation Group and the 70th Troop Command. As an Assistant General, she assists the Adjutant General in the formulation, development, and implementation of all programs and policies in the Missouri Army National Guard.

General Martin was commissioned a second lieutenant through the Missouri Army National Guard Officer Candidate School in 1991. Prior to commissioning, General Martin began her military career in 1989 as a Combat Medic. She has held command and leadership positions at company, battalion, and brigade levels. General Martin has served three tours overseas. In October 2001, she deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian and served as the Assistant Training and Operations Officer. In 2003, she served as the Law Enforcement Liaison Officer for the 175th Military Police Battalion during Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2011, she deployed a third time with the 175th Military Police Battalion as the Battalion Commander in support of Operation Enduring Freedom at Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar. She served as the Task Force Commander for National Guard state emergency duty during a plethora of natural disaster responses as well as multiple periods of civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

General Martin’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Kosovo Campaign Medal (with 1 Bronze Service Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

General Martin is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education and a Master of Education in Exercise Physiology from the University of South Alabama. She’s earned a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. General Martin is a professional Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician.

When not serving the Missouri National Guard General Martin is a Fire Apparatus Operator for the Kansas City Fire Department.
